Democrat for State House 46

Micheal Garza

As a father of a young girl trying to find her way in this world, I am always cognizant of being a positive role model for her. In doing so, I try to show her that when we have the power and means to improve the lives of those in our community, we step up and do so. That’s why I have been an active leader in PTA, why I am involved heavily in charitable organizations, and why I have stepped up to run for the state house.

Meet Micheal

Family is at the center of who I am as a person and the backbone of every decision I’ll make as a public servant. My wife Samantha and I have been together for over two decades. We met at her best friend’s wedding and have since enjoyed a life of laughter, shared pain, fun road trips traveling the southeast, and now being parents to an incredible five-year-old.

Emma is just like her mom – smart, independent, and funny. We spend our time together on treasure hunts in the house, making up stories about animal adventures, listening to Elvis Presley and Jimi Hendrix, going to the park on weekends, reading children’s books, and watching Wild Kratts.

In my professional life, I’m a small-business owner with a background in telecommunications. For over a decade, I worked for EarthLink, starting from the ground up answering support calls from customers to eventually having P&L responsibility for the business web hosting and internet division of the company.

In 2009, I started my own web development firm after the Great Recession made finding employment impossible. In this role, I have a unique viewpoint in both being an owner of a small business and facilitating the development of other small businesses by creating their online presences.

Our family attends Transfiguration Catholic church in Marietta. My wife and I have been active in the Marriage Encounter ministry for the last eight years, recently serving as leaders of the Marietta/Woodstock chapter.

On The Issues

Making a Positive Impact In Our Communities

Every policy position I hold centers around empowering people to have a fair shot at enjoying a high quality of life for themselves and their families. We do that by supporting policies that make it easier for people to find a good job at a living wage, to access our healthcare system without going into debt, to find affordable housing and build equity for the future, and by making it possible for our children to be able to get a quality public education regardless of zip code.

Support Public Schools & Educators

Rather than demonize teachers and our public schools, we should be committed to providing educators with the tools and resources they need to provide a world-class education to our children. This means more school counselors, smaller class sizes, and increasing teacher retention rates especially in vulnerable districts.

Reduce Gun Violence in Our Communities

2021 was one of the deadliest years in recent history, and it coincides with the rise in unsecured guns in the state. I support common-sense initiatives proven to reduce gun violence in our communities, like universal background checks, safe gun storage awareness, extreme risk laws, and sensible waiting periods on purchases.

Protect Reproductive Freedom

Access to safe and legal abortion is a cornerstone of the right of women to have complete control over making personal and private medical decisions that impact their future. I will fight to codify this right and pursue policies that remove barriers to reproductive healthcare and improve maternal health outcomes in our state.
